Southshore University College is pleased to announce the successful deployment of its Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), a significant milestone in the University's ongoing efforts to enhance access to information resources and improve the overall library experience for students, faculty, and staff.
The OPAC serves as a comprehensive online register and
database containing a systematic record of all materials owned by the
University Library. Acting as a detailed search index, the platform enables
users to efficiently locate, identify, and select information resources
available within the library's collection from any location and at any time.

The OPAC offers a range of user-friendly features designed
to improve information retrieval and facilitate engagement with library
services.
One of its key functions is the ability to conduct
comprehensive searches across the library's collection. Users can search for
materials using various criteria, including author, title, ISBN, and subject.
When an item is available, the system displays its corresponding alphanumeric
code, commonly referred to as the Call Number (e.g., HF 5415. K84). This call
number is essential for locating materials on the library shelves and is
typically displayed on the spine or cover of each item.
In addition to search functionality, the platform includes
an "Ask a Librarian" feature, which allows users to initiate a chat
with a librarian and seek assistance on matters relating to library services,
resources, and information retrieval.
The OPAC also provides direct access to the University's
website, further integrating library services with the broader digital
resources of Southshore University College. The introduction of the OPAC
significantly enhances accessibility and convenience for members of the
University community. Patrons can now search the library catalogue remotely
without the need to physically visit the library. Furthermore, the platform has
been optimized for smartphones and other mobile devices, bringing the library's
resources directly to users wherever they may be.
The University encourages all students, faculty, and staff
