Biography

Professor David Sarpong is Professor of Strategy and Organisation at Aston Business School and Director of the Aston MRes in Business and Management. Before joining Aston he was Professor of Strategic Management at Brunel University London, where he headed the Strategy, Entrepreneurship and International Business Research Group. He has previously served as Course Director at UWE Bristol, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Higher School of Economics Laboratory for Economics of Innovation, and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is the elected UK Country Representative for the European Academy of Management and a member of the International Committee of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, where he works on strategies for the internationalisation of business schools. A former Convenor of the British Academy of Management Doctoral Symposium and an elected Vice Chair of the Academy, he serves on its Academic Affairs, Conference and Capacity Building sub-committee. He is Editor-in-Chief of Strategy & Leadership, Associate Editor of Technology Analysis and Strategic Management, and Senior Associate Editor of the European Management Journal. He holds a Visiting Professorship at Bristol Business School and an Adjunct Visiting Professorship at KNUST Business School, and is a Trustee and Board Member of The Milestones Trust, a Bristol social care charity. His work, cited more than 5,700 times, spans strategic foresight, open strategy, platform governance in underdeveloped markets and second-order innovation.
