BBA Accounting

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting programme aims to provide a broad education and training in modern business profile, suitable for a wide range of students in key areas of business management and other allied disciplines. A rigorous accounting degree to prepare & produce skilled persons in the field of accounting for employment in both public and private sectors of the economy, and other organisations where such skills and disciplines are required. Students are, therefore, exposed to courses that will equip them with the knowledge, understanding and skills for employing reflective and objective critical thinking in their fields of endeavour in order to contribute meaningfully in creating value for organisations, and become citizens capable of functioning in a highly complex, interdependent, and global society. It prepares graduates for professional practice, corporate finance roles and onward chartered qualifications (ICAG, ACCA, CIMA) with significant exemptions from the institute examinations.

Entry requirements

  • WASSCE: credits (A1–C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics, one other core subject and three relevant elective subjects. SSSCE; Compulsory Subjects - Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects, including English and Mathematics (Core) and Elective Subjects – Grade D or better in three (3) elective subjects.
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject for Science students. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE).
  • Mature applicants (25+) considered with at least five (5) years of relevant work experience and an entrance interview
  • HND certificate ( at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience. Other Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.
  • All foreign qualifications should be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana

Graduation requirements

  • (a)Course Requirements; To earn a degree from Southshore University College and to qualify for graduation, a student must complete: (i) a general education requirement courses ; (ii) a common foundation and core courses outlined by respective School; (iii) speciality/major requirement courses specified by an academic department; (iv) a combination of free electives, for some programmes, and long essay/project work to complement the degree programme; (v) earn a grade of “D” or higher in all core and elective courses within specialised area of study, and achieve a minimum total of credit hours specified, and have obtained at least a weighted average of at least 1.5, or grade “D” in any failed course; and (vi) satisfy the requirements of the student’s respective programmes of study and satisfy all university requirements for graduation.
  • (b)Credits Requirements: General Education Requirements - 41 Credits, CS Foundation Requirements - 42 Credits, School Core Requirements - 33 Credits, Speciality/Major Requirements - 27 Credits. TOTAL - 143 Credits
  • (c)Additional requirements for graduation e.g. attendance; all students are required to attend classes regularly. Unexcused absence on four occasions leads to denial of a grade in course.
