BA Theology

A foundational degree in Christian theology — Designed to equip students to acquire and develop a broad, integrated introduction to theology in general and Pentecostal/Charismatic theology in particular, to become familiar with the literature, language and concepts of theology, integrating academic & practical theology in modern theological studies. The BSc in Theology is to help students achieve the academic skills and attributes necessary for research, comprehension, interpretation and evaluation of theology from a range of sources and to apply the knowledge to the issues and challenges of church and society today. In addition, students are expected to have a foundation in theology for self-directed and lifelong learning as the basis for advanced study in theology through postgraduate courses and acquire interpersonal and teamwork skills appropriate for ministry in the church and society.

Entry requirements

  • WASSCE: credits (A1–C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics, one other core subject and three relevant elective subjects, aggregate 24 or better
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject for Science students.
  • Mature applicants (25+) considered with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience and an entrance exam
  • Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Compulsory Subjects - Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects, including English and Mathematics (Core) and Elective Subjects – Grade D or better in three (3) elective subjects.
  • Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE).
  • HND certificate (at least 2nd Class Lower Division), additionally applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience Other applicants with Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.
  • All foreign qualifications are referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana. any other qualification holders beyond the ones specified above are referred to the National Accreditation Board for the establishment of their equivalences, to determine their eligibility for admission to tertiary education institutions- universities and university colleges.
  • English language: IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5) or equivalent for international applicants
  • Pastoral or denominational reference letter -- (1), Personal statement of 500 to 800 words maximum explaining academic interest in theology

Graduation requirements

  • (a)Course Requirements; To earn a degree from Southshore University College and to qualify for graduation, a student must complete: (i) a general education requirement courses ; (ii) a common foundation and core courses outlined by respective School; (iii) speciality/major requirement courses specified by an academic department; (iv) a combination of free electives, for some programmes, and long essay/project work to complement the degree programme; (v) earn a grade of “D” or higher in all core and elective courses within specialised area of study, and achieve a minimum total of credit hours specified, and have obtained at least a weighted average of at least 1.5, or grade “D” in any failed course; and (vi) satisfy the requirements of the student’s respective programmes of study and satisfy all university requirements for graduation.
  • (b)Credits Requirements: Satisfy the General programme credit Requirements
  • (c)Additional requirements for graduation e.g. attendance; all students are required to attend classes regularly. Unexcused absence on four occasions leads to denial of a grade in course.
